All over America, thousands of people are bitten by the spring cleaning bug as the winter fades into the background. While dusting, sweeping, raking and other tasks tend to take priority – refreshing your windows is equally as important. What can you do to update your windows this spring? Below are a list of things you could consider.

  • Make a Simple Cleaning Solution

Before you start cleaning, you need to mix yourself a simple, all-purpose cleaning solution. In a spray bottle, gently combine warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Alternatively, you could also mix the warm water with white vinegar. This cleaning solution can be used on almost all surfaces in your house, including your windows.

  • Take Care of Those Screens

Your window screens accumulate a lot of dirt, dust and grime throughout the year. Start your spring right and give them a thorough cleaning. Remove your screens carefully from their window frames. Spray the screens with your simple cleaning solution. With a rag or soft bristle brush, gently scrub your screen and spray off any residue with a hose. Allow them to fully dry before reinstalling on your window frame. (You may need to repair your screens as well. • Clear Your View & Clean Those Windows

While your screens are drying, it is the perfect time to clean your window glass. You can use the same method on the both the interior and exterior of your windows. Aside from your cleaning solution, all you really need is a squeegee. Spray your glass with your simple cleaning solution. For large or single-pane windows, drag your squeegee across the glass in a large “S” pattern, starting in a top corner and working your way down. For small or multi-pane windows, simply drag your squeegee from top to bottom. Make sure you wipe the squeegee blade every time you remove it from your glass surface to ensure you do not track dirty water over clean areas. If you notice water on the frame once you are done, you can quickly wipe it up with a microfiber cloth.

  • Update Your Frames

Speaking of frames, you may decide it is time to update your window’s look. A fresh coat of paint or stain can do wonders when it comes to sprucing up your home’s appearance. If you drip any paint on your window’s surface, invest in a professional grade glass scraper to remove it. These tools limit the potential to scrape your glass while still removing stuck on gunk, like paint.
