Cleaning your windows is one of those necessary evils in life. Clean windows make your home brighter and seem bigger. People generally notice when your windows are dirty. Some windows can be hard to clean especially if you live in an apartment building. Window cleaning may seem simple but there are some important factors that you should and shouldn’t do when cleaning your windows.

Ledges

If you have a multiple story house or live in an apartment building you may have a window ledge. The last thing you want to do is get out on your window ledge to clean the outside of your windows. You don’t know if your ledge is slippery and keeping your balance can be hard on such a small surface. Even if you have a great balance it’s best to use a ladder. Falling from multiple stories can cause serious injury or even death.

Ladders

We’ve already gone over the need to use the ladder, but you need to be careful. Make sure your ladder is on a secure even surface. Don’t place your ladder on a small ledge; the ladder will fall over easily in this situation. This again can cause serious injury or death. If the ladder cannot reach from an even surface then you should find a bigger ladder.

Sunny days
You might be thinking that the perfect time to wash your windows is on a nice sunny day, but it’s not. The problem is that the typical person will get one side all soapy and then move on to the other before rinsing it off leading that first side to dry quickly from the heat. You don’t want the soap to dry and harden on the windows. It will make it harder to get it off and fully clean your windows.

Amount of cleaning fluid

You might think that you’re actually saving money when you use less cleaning fluid, but you’re probably not using enough to get your windows clean. When using a light amount your windows won’t have the shiny sparkle you’re looking for once dried. If you think you’re not using enough cleaning fluid you’re probably not. It’s always better to use more than you think, it won’t harm the windows.

If all else fails don’t be afraid to get your windows professionally cleaned. Professionals won’t make any of these mistakes.
