As winter fades to spring, the greens around us explode. Unfortunately, for many of us, the spring also brings tons of rain showers too. However, a rainy day does not mean your day is ruined. Sure, you won’t be going on that family hike you had hoped for, but consider it a great time to get a little spring cleaning in. That way, once the rain has stopped, the chores are over and you can enjoy the nice weather.
A Perfect Cloudy Day
Not many people would consider a cloudy day to be perfect. However, when it comes to cleaning your windows, cloudy days are actually the best! You never want to clean your windows when the sun is beating down on them. This heats your window and causes your cleaning solution to pre-maturely dry, leaving build up on your glass. The clouds, on the other hand, prevent this and give you ample shade to get those windows cleaned on your timeline!
Take Advantage of a Rainy Day
Not only are you stuck inside, but your family likely is as well. Cleaning windows is not as hard as you may think – even your children can help! First, you do not need toxic chemicals to get a truly clean window. Add a few drops of soap or a couple tablespoons of vinegar to a spray bottle filled with warm water for the perfect cleaning solution. Second, aside from your cleaning solution, all you really need is a squeegee and microfiber towel. Clear away any items from your window ledge and gather your tools. Now, you are ready to clean!
Streak-Free Views
Spritz your cleaning solution over your glass. If you are cleaning a large or single-pane window, drag your squeegee over the glass, from top to bottom, in a large “S” pattern. For multi-pane or small windows, simply drag your squeegee vertically from top to bottom of each pane. (Be sure to wipe any liquid from the blade every time you lift the blade, regardless of your window size. Failure to do so will track dirty water over clean parts of your window and lead to smeared windows!) When you have finished squeegeeing your windows, wipe any remaining liquid from your windowpanes to ensure dirt does not gather there. That is it! You have just turned a dismal, rainy day into a productive cleaning event. Now, you can enjoy a streak-free view and those eventually sunny days outdoors.
